What does a SA conveyancer do?

A South Australian conveyancer is a registered professional who prepares the necessary legal paperwork required in real estate transactions to change the ownership from the current owner to the new owner.

A large majority of conveyancers are members of the Australian Institute of Conveyancers – SA Inc. and regarded as a “Certified Practising Conveyancer” (CPC), to be a CPC they must attend a number of seminars each year to keep their knowledge fresh and up to date.

On top of ensuring that all the necessary paperwork is prepared, executed and lodged, your conveyancer will also liaise with your bank and mortgage broker to ensure the settlement time frame is being met and your settlement takes place on time.

Conveyancers also investigate government searches and check for environmental issues registered against the Title and ensure it is clear from all debts at the time of settlement.

  • Sabo

I understand that it may vary based on personal situation but can I get a general estimated figure on conveyancer fees?

  • Hey Sabo, as a general estimation, you may have to pay anywhere from $800 to about $1,500 on conveyancer fees.

  • Sergio L

I want to sell my SA property. How can a conveyancer help me?

  • Hi Sergio,

A conveyancer can help prepare legal documents like Contract of Sale and Vendor’s Statement. They ensure that you meet all disclosure obligations, co-ordinate the day of settlement with the buyer’s conveyancer and also attend it. They also direct the real estate agent to hand over the keys to the buyer after the settlement.

  • catts

Hi there, can I get some tips to help me choose a good conveyancer?

  • Hey catts, you can enquire them about their membership with the Australian Institute of Conveyancers, ask their fees and charges and if there will be any additional services costs. You can then enquire about the government fees and charges that you may need to pay along with the time it will take to reach settlement. This should give you a good idea of how organised and prepared they are. You can also ask them to keep you up to date with what’s happening.

  • Cruzz

How about your fees? If I get the help of a Home Loan Experts broker, how much can I expect to pay?

  • Well, you won’t need to pay any fees in most cases. This is because we’re paid by the banks for bringing in the business that would’ve otherwise been brought by one of their staff. However, where we do charge fees are generally for complicated situations, business /commercial loans and if you’re paying off the loan in under 2 years. You can check out our fees page for further clarification:
