How To Apply For The First Home Owners Grant NT

You can apply for the NT First Home Owner Grant through your approved lender or directly through the Territory Revenue Office (TRO).

Most first-home buyers choose to apply through their lender or broker when taking out a home loan, as it’s faster, involves less paperwork, and ensures the grant is processed correctly. The grant is typically paid in time for settlement or the first construction payment, depending on the type of property.

Alternatively, you can apply directly by downloading the application form from the TRO website, attaching the required documents (including ID and your signed contract), and lodging it via email, post, or in person.

When Is The Grant Paid In NT?

The First Home Owner Grant in the Northern Territory is paid at different stages depending on how you apply and the type of property:

  • If applying through an approved lender: Paid to your lender once your eligibility is confirmed, often at settlement or construction progress payment.
  • If applying directly to the Territory Revenue Office (TRO):
    • Buying a property: Paid after your name is registered on the title
    • Building a home (contract build): Paid after the foundation is laid and progress payments equal to or greater than the grant have been made.
    • Owner-builder: Paid once construction is complete.

Payments made through the TRO are typically processed within 5 business days after receiving a complete application.
