HLE Cares – May ’14 Update

Published by Otto Dargan on May 21, 2014

HLE Cares is a social initiative started by Home Loan Experts in early 2014 with the aim of helping the less fortunate in Nepal.

Our objectives are to:

  • Provide better educational facilities for local students
  • Sponsor education and shelter for children whose parents cannot afford to do so
  • Raise awareness about disability inclusion in society
  • Encourage staff to engage in volunteer activities

Until now, we have worked with three different organisations.

Lunch program at Aama ko Ghar

Aama ko Ghar (Mother’s House) is a social service organisation which helps senior citizens and children by providing them with shelter and security. The organisation is run by Dil Shova Shrestha.

In October 2013, HLE Cares sponsored a lunch program for 70 people consisting of seniors and street children. Clothes were also donated at the event.

Setting up classrooms for Prayas

Prayas is a non-profit organisation working for the welfare of street children and drug users. They are involved in several activities such as providing day care and counselling services to street children. Prayas also supports street children and People Living With HIV/AIDS by referring them to rehabilitation centres and Voluntary Councelling and Testing (VCT) centres. The organisation is run by Elisha Shrestha and Anirudh Chettri.

In April 2014, HLE Cares set up a classroom by donating three sets of tables, six desks, one bookshelf and a desktop computer along with various educational materials.

Art competition at CYF

Children & Youth First Nepal (CYF Nepal) provides a home for children whose parents cannot take care of them. They provide them with food, education, shelter and most importantly a nurturing environment. The organisation is run by Haushala Thapa. You can visit their Facebook page for more information.

HLE Cares has been sponsoring Sabina Kunwar (bottom right) since 2013. Sabina used to live on the streets with her mother and partially paralysed father. Sabina now lives in CYF where she receives hot meals, a warm bed and a proper education. Sabina is now five years old and recently came third in her whole class during their final exams of nursery.

In March 2014, the team visited CYF Nepal and hosted a small art competition for the children. The aim of the activity was to engage them and let them unleash their creativity.

Future plans

In the following months we plan to:

  • Build toilets and ramps for disabled people
  • Help set up schools in remote areas of Nepal
