How much do you save on LMI?
Usually, if you need to borrow more than 80% of the property value, then you will have to pay a fee called Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI).
As an accountant, you don’t have to pay LMI which saves you over $24,000 if you’re borrowing 90% for a million-dollar property!
You get this special deal since you’re a low-risk borrower.
We recently got LMI waived and a great discount for a client who was a Chartered Accountant. His income was $140,000 p.a.
Previously, he would not qualify since his income did not meet the $150,000 p.a. threshold.
Since there is no minimum income requirement, he saved $26,928 in LMI fees and even got a 1.72% discount on the interest rate.
How to get approved?
- There is no minimum income requirement.
- Your occupation must be on the lender’s list of acceptable professionals.
- Your industry membership is recognized – even globally recognized membership is accepted.
- You are not borrowing more than $2.7 million.
Previously, a minimum income of up to $150,000 p.a. was required. Now, you can qualify for waived LMI since the minimum income threshold is gone.

Minor variations are acceptable. For example, job titles with “Tax Accountant” or “Internal Auditor” will be accepted.
You have to give evidence of your degree or industry membership. (e.g. CPA Australia).
